Best Buy Joins Long List of Retailers to Extend Cyber Monday into Cyber Week
As if the heart-stopping bargains of Black Friday and Cyber Monday weren’t enough, big-box titan Best Buy has decided to follow in the footsteps of other retailers and extend their discounts well beyond the norm.
According to CNN Money, Best Buy is shaking things up this year for holiday shoppers by offering considerable discounts for the entire week following Black Friday. Their online deals began on Sunday and will continue through Dec. 5.
As more shoppers look to avoid the hustle and bustle of in-store Black Friday shopping, retailers are putting a stronger emphasis on cyber sales. Since almost every major company has already ramped up their Cyber Monday savings, Best Buy is looking to target consumers who missed out on the first round of deals.
On the actual Cyber Monday, Best Buy rolled out over 50 unique one-day sales, including a $100 Best Buy gift card with the purchase of a GoPro Hero 4 Black and 50% off Kitchen Aid mixers. The company will unveil new deals for each of the next four days, dubbing it “Cyber Week.”
Research shows that about 17% of Best Buy’s walk-in customers did so because of their sign, and the company’s outside-the-box approach to cyber deals could bring in a new wave of walk-in customers, albeit online. Despite their clever marketing plan, Best Buy still could be bested by other retailers who are holding their own version of Cyber Week.
According to The Fiscal Times, consumer site WalletHub has tallied 30 major companies that are also extending bargains through Dec. 5. Among them are Groupon, Bon-Ton, eBay, Sears, and Amazon.
WalletHub’s research has found that Groupon is boasting the highest average Cyber Week markdown of 61.8%. Best Buy is a paltry 27th on the list, averaging a markdown of 23.5%.
To improve their case for consumers to visit their website, Best Buy is offering free shipping and in-store pickup throughout the entire week. They have also launched an enhanced mobile app equipped with 24-hour live chat assistance.
Considering the fierce competition between major retailers to roll out the best discounts every holiday season, it seems as if Cyber Week is destined to become Cyber Month in the near future.
