subarustarlinkSubaru of America, Inc. announced that it will display its new STARLINK system at the New York International Auto Show on April 3rd-12th.

PR Newswire reports that a prototype of the new system will be shown at the auto show in the new 2016 Subaru Forester as well as at a STARLINK kiosk. Though the hands-free system has been a staple of Subaru models for years, the new system is said to feature additional and improved capabilities such as built-in AT&T 4G LTE service, automatic collision notifications, remote vehicle service, monthly diagnostic reports, and smartphone app services.

STARLINK will retain its previous features such as Sirius XM radio and cellular phone service. The new system will be equipped in select 2016 Subaru models later in the year.

“The Subaru STARLINK technology is the next step in vehicle connectivity for Subaru,” said Alan Bethke, vice president of marketing of Subaru of America, Inc. “There is a new emphasis from consumers for improved connectivity in their vehicles. This system allows Subaru to deliver new levels of safety and security services, giving our customers added peace of mind.”

The system is known for its user-friendly interface and its 24-hour advising services who can call the police or roadside assistance if an accident happens. STARLINK also comes with Pandora, iHeartRadio, Aha, and other digital entertainment services. Drivers can use the system to send texts, make phone calls, and play music with simple voice commands. They can even access live traffic alerts.

“Subaru started putting the STARLINK system into all the new Outbacks as a test model, and it was met with overwhelming success,” said Shane Romee, sales manager of Hudiburg Subaru located in Oklahoma City. “The system went from being one of the lowest-ranked on the market to the highest rated in just one model year because of it’s ease of use. Customers have been raving about the improved navigation features, voice command, and radio options.”

The system, of course, comes with an advanced GPS system that is used for emergencies as well as for driving directions. STARLINK will also feature a vehicle diagnostic system that automatically checks 14 vehicle systems. If an issue is detected, STARLINK will send an email to the driver, listing the issue as well as the nearest Subaru service provider that can make repairs.
