Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau: A ruthless leader with a twisted ideology

He is the father of devil. His ideology is bitter than the ideology of cannibals. He is demon incarnate. He works in the shadowy world. His intention is to eliminate the concept of humanity from this world. Yes, he is Abubakar Shekau the leader of Boko Haram.

Brief Background:

Shekau is hailing from Shekau village that is bordered with Niger. He took his religious education from Borno State College of Legal and Islamic Studies.

He’s a polyglot:

He is polyglot. He can speak many languages like Kanuri and Arabic, Hausa, and Fulani. He does not speak English because he is against western culture.

He’s elusive

His age is unknown. It is said that his age is around 38 to 49. The U.S. State Department has Shekau’s year of birth listed as 1965, 1969 and 1975.

He’s a loner

Experts call him a loner. He does not communicate with his members. Rather, he prefers his close aide if he has to say something. He uses different names. Abu Bakr Skikwa, Imam Abu Bakr Shiku and Abu Muhammad Abu Bakr Bin Muhammad Al Shakwi Al Muslimi Bishku are his aliases.

He was an unruly No. 2

Mohammed Yusuf was the founder of Boko Haram. He was not a good leader. Though, his intention was to declare Nigeria as a pure Islamic state. But, Shekau was slightly more effective and prejudice leader.

And merciless as No. 1

Mohammed Yusuf along with his 700 members had been killed by security forces. After replacing Yusuf as a leader, Shekau made a solemn vow to take revenge. After getting charge of the group, he went on killing plenty of government officials, journalists, police affairs, and government workers. Human Rights Watch claims that more than 3000 people have been ruthlessly killed in the last few years.

He uses Islam to recruit and radicalize

He is always using Islam to recruit militants in his group. He has recruited young people of his areas in the name of Islam. He says that the current government is corrupt however it should be replaced with pure Islamic system of governance.

And the government’s response isn’t helping

The central government has failed to address the issue. It is said that government officials and military men have raped the women of his group members that ultimately helped him to recruit more people.

He’s exporting his brand of terror

His ambitions about Nigeria are crystal clear. He is associated with a bunch of militant organizations of Middle East.

United States has set $7 million bounty of his head. The reward will be given to those people who will leak his location information.
