Lady Gaga Says ‘YES!’ to Boyfriend Taylor Kinney’s Proposal, Shows off Heart-Shaped Diamond Ring Online
Lady Gaga revealed her engagement ring from beau Taylor Kinney on Instagram on Monday, Feb. 16.
The news was broken by Us Weekly that day, revealing that yes, the singer and her actor boyfriend, who have been together since 2011, plan to wed.
“He gave me his heart on Valentine’s Day, and I said YES!” the caption on Gaga’s photo reads.
The black and white photograph shows a closeup of the ring’s heart-shaped diamond.
Perhaps Gaga — known for her flamboyant outfits, hair and makeup — is more conventional than originally thought: according to WeddingWire, 87.1% of brides prefer diamonds over other gemstones.
However, Gaga’s ring cost likely significantly more than a typical engagement ring. Experts contacted by The Daily Mail said the 10-carat diamond solitaire ring is worth “no less than” $500,000.
Kinney, 33, met Gaga, 28, on the set of her “You and I” music video four years ago. The actor, who now stars on Chicago Fire, played Gaga’s love interest in the video.
The couple were seen celebrating at Joanne Trattoria, a restaurant on Manhattan’s Upper West Side owned by Gaga’s parents.
Times Herald-Record executive editor Barry Lewis happened to be in the restaurant as the happy couple celebrated and told US Weekly that the couple made no move to keep their new engagement a secret.
Gaga was seen out walking earlier this week, but kept her hand covered.
Back in November 2013, Lady Gaga was interviewed by Ellen Degeneres and had nothing but positive things to say about her future fiance.
“He’s a hidden weirdo,” she said on Ellen’s TV show. “He is extremely strange, actually, and we complement each others’ weirdness.”
Kinney told US Weekly about his relationship with Gaga in April 2014, saying, “I love what she does and her work and music and charity. She inspires so many people including myself.”
In October, a rumor surfaced that the couple had held an intimate commitment ceremony at Gaga’s family’s restaurant.
